I am a college student who smokes pot and drinks copious amounts of alcohol to manage my anxiety. I am one of those "sensitive to human suffering" English major types, and I'd just like to point out that countless numbers of great artists have been drunks, like Dylan Thomas, for example. I dont have any problem balancing this lifestyle with my school work. My marks are typically As and Bs. I guess what Im trying to say, is that some people become christians , some people do heroin, and some people do what I do. Considering the state of the world today, I think my anxiety is rational, and my solution to this anxiety is better than alot of other people's. You may call my indulgences "unhealthy", but they work for me. One last point. My friends agree that I am a good drunk. I never shoot my mouth off, drink to the point of puking, or become violent. So hey, dont act like drinking is a big destructive force in society. That is as transparent and tunnel visioned as blaming television for all the violence in our culture. If you really want to make a difference, do something relevant. Become socially active, and attack the anxiety at its roots, rather than attacking the way that people are forced to manage their anxiety. Bob.
