SimLife: Another popular simulation

There's a also an older software package (game) from Maxis called SimLife that attempts to simulate selective pressures and demonstrate speciation on a highly compressed timescale.

I don't know how the sophistication compares to the newer game, but the strategy book that Maxis publishes to help players manipulate the environment to devise successful evolutionary strategies would make am unusually interesting high school or undergrad biology text.
