I am not sure that I understand your question completely so feel free to clarify it for me in another note. Zoloft is an anti-depressant, one of the newer SSRIs. It seems helpful in many but certainly not all cases. It sometimes helps with irritability and anger control. The sudden disconinuation of zoloft can provoke was is called a SSRI discontinuation syndrom, which can be very unpleasant. I am not clear if this is the issue that you are asking about. Your reaction to zoloft (that is, if it is helpful or not helpful) does not predict whether EMDR might be helpful or not. If you were taking zoloft while you were in EMDR therapy and then discontinued the medication, you might expect a return of some symptoms that previously seemed to be resolved with the EMDR. The general procedure for using EMDR with patients who are on medications is to do the EMDR work, then slowly remove the medications, and see if any disturbance (in the targets that were the focus of EMDR) returns. If so, reprocess with EMDR, but this time without the medications in your system. If you were not in EMDR treatment and were wondering if your reaction to the medication predicts your reaction to EMDR, then the answer is no, it does not. What would be recommended is that you talk directly with a trained and EMDRIA certified therapist more directly about your issues and concerns. You can find EMDRIA certified therapists through the EMDRIA office or web site (www.emdria.org).
