Distortion #3: EMDR is not a "power therapy." Comparisons of EMDR with so called "power therapies" has been done only by marketeers and detractors. There is no research on TFT or EFT and clinicians do not report the same results. There are many different parameters of change. The very comparison is a distraction and clearly comes from neither research nor clinical experience. This has been amply covered in the archives. Distortion #4: There are no "demand characteristics with SUDs" in EMDR. SUD is taken very rarely, not repeatedly as it is with other therapies, including flooding. This is covered in the archives. Distortion #5: EMDR holds up just as well as other therapies as indicated in repeated studies with 3, 9 and 15 month followups. In fact, take a look at the van Etten & Taylor meta-analysis. It not only shows maintenance of effect, but improvement in follow up which is a standard observation of EMDR therapists as well. The only exception is a study conducted by a researcher testing his own treatment protocol against EMDR. He was the therapist, researcher and author of the protocol and his results are different than any other civilian study of EMDR. This topic was also covered amply in the archives with "Brian." Seems we are back into the same recycled territory. I suggest you take a look at the archives.
