Tim, Good point. You have changed my mind. Skeptic has not attacked anyone personally on this board, nor attributed motivations (such as jealousy) to those who may intellectually disagree. Only the ideas matter, not the authority (identity or person) who advances them. So, speaking of ideas, here is one on the theoretical issue "exposure" in EMDR: Perhaps exposure-inclined therapists think that it is more empowering to tell people that what is most important in getting relief is their own efforts in specific exposure to -- and interpretation of -- the traumatic ideations, rather then arcane administrations by expert therapists. Moreover, if exposure is sufficient, then perhaps it is better to share this simple concept with clients, rather than to suggest the mystifying, ever-changing, and largely speculative explanations of the workings of EMDR. Reliance on oneself through exposure efforts is perhaps better than (or equal to) reliance on the authority of hand-waving expert therapists. As Always, Skeptic
