Thank you for distinguishing these two phases of treatment. Indeed, EMDR is completely suitable for assisting in the adjustment from a traumatic experience to a more adaptive resolution. A history of bipolar disorder, with all the ups and downs it entails, shame, guilt, loss, etc, can be construed as a trauma history. EMDR can assist in laying to rest unresolved emotions from that history. It can also be used, via RDI (resource development) and future templating, to enhance self esteem and create a vivid image of adaptive functioning in the future.
