The following is intended as a general comment, and isn't specific as to your case. I'm not aware of any case reports about typing as bilateral stimulation -- it isn't exactly rhythmic. Some people find that their emotions spill after EMDR. For those people, resource installation of containment imagery is often very helpful. Therapists should save a bit of time at the end of sessions for containment procedures to make sure material is contained for those individuals. Some people process their material according to one or more BASK elements at a time (Bennett Braun's concept) Behavior -- Affect -- Sensation -- Knowledge. So one of those channels may process during EMDR, another channel later or during another EMDR session. This can happen either spontaneously because of the way the client's self system is structured, or deliberately, as a strategy to titrate the intensity of EMDR processing. This is called a "fractionated abreaction" (Richard Kluft and Catherine Fine). When an abreaction is fractionated, meaning, the processing is conducted in pieces over time, containment of the channels that were not processed during the EMDR session is especially critical. Finally, processing is a natural human brain function, and can occur with or without bilateral stimulation. EMDR is an industrial strength approach to processing -- journaling is a household strength approach, which can suffice many times. For information related to your specific case, please talk to your therapist about your questions.
