I am diagnosed as having Borderline personality traits. I split on an average of once a week. Because of past episodes of violence I am currently taking 50mg of Zoloft daily. I have been in EMDR therapy for about 8 weeks. I have only had one double session. The rest have been about forty minutes in duration. The scenario goes as follows. After a brief review of the week The Dr. asks me to think of something unpleasant and then statrs the movements. I am unable to relive the emotopn and in general we rely on pictoral memory. My behavior has improved though I still have occaisional episodes of jealousy and anger. My violence has ceased altogether and my partner and I are beginning to communicate better. I'm not certain if the improvement is due to the drug or the EMDR or both. Here is my issue. Last week I showed up for therapy a day after a particularly emotional scene with my partner. I was angry, jealous full of righteous indignation, agitated and emotional. Instead of EMDR the Dr. opted for a regular talk session. I'm wondering if we didn't pass a golden opportunity to utilize EMDR to it's maximum benefit. I'd appreciate some input from Francine or a professional in the field as I'm seriously considering changing therapists at this point. Thanks in advance.
