This discussion forum provides only general information rather than info tailored to a specific case. In general, I always encourage clients to discuss their concerns with their therapist. I do use clients emotional states as golden opportunities to access material and to do some EMDR. In general, therapists usually have reasons behind what they do and those reasons are usually explanable on client inquiry. There are other ways to access disturbing emotions as well, and often we can do procedures that strengthen clients positive resources, and make those resources more available. This is helpful in any case but especially if targetting the negative emotions is problematic. An experienced EMDR therapist will know what those methods are.
