Both Level I and Level II training is highly standardized. The same training manuals, instructor guidelines, video tapes, etc. are used no matter where you take Level I or Level II. There have been some changes over time (that is if you took a Level I three or four years ago, it would have been different from what is done now), but changes are made only after careful consideration of the research and feedback from trainees. Level II training is quite clear that one should employe EMDR with DID clients ONLY if the therapist is already an expert in DID work and IN ADDITION, has completed Level II EMDR training. Students who attend Level II training are clearly told that Level II EMDR skills are NOT sufficient in and of themselves to make the therapist an expert in treating DID clients. There are a number of EMDR therapists who have elected to specialize in dissociative disorders and DID. These therapists have developed additional skills and procedures that they utilize with DID clients that are not taught in Level II training (since Level II training is not specific to EMDR work with DID or dissociative clients but covers work with a wife variety of clients) however, these skills are taught in workshops and seminars that take place regularly. Please talk with your therapist. If they are not already expert in working with dissociation and DID (independent to their training in EMDR), then Level II training in EMDR will not be sufficient to work with this group of clients. Good luck.
