On my way out the door for a weekend excursion, thought I'd add a quick note. 1) Level II trainings offer specialty presentations in the afternoons-- one of them is dissociation/DID. Level II attendees may opt for another specialty presentation. 2) You have a right to specifically ask each and any EMDR therapist you talk to how much training and experience they having working with DID and using EMDR with DID. 3) You have a right to ask what approach they will use with you. Please review the archives of this forum to see prior discussions on the special protocols for using EMDR with DID. There is an article available for free on my website, under "Articles for Professionals", on the use of EMDR with DID. Your therapist should be familiar with that approach or a suitable alternative procedure. Any such procedure must address both containment and affect titration. That article emphasizes the procedure called Dissociative Table to titrate affect and for containment. Other procedures, i.e., fractionated abreaction, also titrate affect. Finally, therapists new to this procedure should seek training and consultation from an EMDR consultant who works with dissociation. Good luck to you. Sandra Paulsen Inobe PhD
