    Graduate Student and EMDR Training

    Hello,
I am a second year graduate student in social work. I plan on obtaining my LCSW licensure in Colorado - post gradute 2 years supervision required prior to issuance. However, I am very interested in EMDR as I have done many papers on the topic 8-) and have also engaged in my own EMDR treatment. My main question is how does one proceed with gaingin experience from Level I to move to Level II and then become skilled/proficient/competant enough to utilize the technique without undue harm to the client? I realize that gaining experience is difficult as most agencies are wanting already highly qualified and experienced practitioners but I want to add EMDR to my skills toolbox and am not sure if it would be better to wait to do training until after I gain my LCSW licensure or go ahead and do the training upon graduation? I really feel that there needs to be more skilled and competant EMDR therapists available in my area - as I had a difficult time weeding through therapists to find one that I felt comfortable with and felt was competant. Any suggestions? I know I'm eager to start out in my career - I've been wanting to do this for so long! I am now 34 and am feeling a little bit behind in my career to start with! However, I would really like experienced EMDR practitioners to give me their viewpoint about when doing the training would be most appropriate.
    Thank you,
    Laura Kietell
