Hi, I'm sitting in for Dr. Shapiro who is on sabbatical. If by your question you really do mean writer's cramp, which I believe is a physical condition, I would not expect EMDR to be the best treatment except perhaps for relaxation and/or stress reduction.

However, if you possibly mean Writer's Block, that is a performance anxiety condition. I've used EMDR on two people for that condition, as I am sure many other EMDR practitioners have. It worked very effectively in combination with cognitive interweave to cause clients to either 1) recover from a mildly traumatic experience (receiving rejection letters that had generalized to result in phobic avoidance of writing), and 2) to soften perfectionistic performance standards that inhibited and caused excessive self-evaluation. In this latter case, the client saw the childhood origins of the perfectionism and became more self-accepting. Both were brief treatments.

    Good luck to you.
