Without commenting on your specific case, I'll make some general comments about the use ofEMDR for performance enhancement. EMDR is helpful for many performers, whether athletes, executives, musicians, artists, in a couple of ways. First though its good to be clear that there are two types of problems that can interfere with performance (besides physical conditions, I mean). One is distracting thoughts, such as the negative self statements associated with feelings of inadequacy. The other is the specific behaviors and habits that comprise a skills or comprise a solution to a physical problem (new skill). In the first case, we target the ideal future performance, and then desensitize/process the distractions, including "installing" positive solutions in case some feared outcome occurs (and if the bad thing DID happen, what could you do then?). If the distractions are too big to process in the available time before the performance, we bridge over it or contain it with imagery. In the second case, we break down the component parts of a skill, and install and vivify them with EMDR, rehearsing them imaginally. We keep going back to that ideal future performance until the image "comes up clean", meaning, the client can go the whole way through without distractions/negative self statements.
