Having read most of the posts and also having gone through several of the archive posts, I have received many answers and thoughts of what to ask my therapist before beginning the EMDR process with her. Like so many others, I am nervous to begin, anxious over the thought of having to actually re-visit my trauma, but also willing to do what I have to do to break free of what has been holding me back. With all that said, first, I wish to thank everyone who makes this forum possible. The information, both from a psychology student perspective and a client perspective, has been invaluable. My question, however, will probably seem repetative to others of the past. I understand the concept of eye movement - following a light, or fingers, back and forth to stimulate, etc... would someone please explain to me how "tapping" works? Is it that the therapist taps your knees and you watch that, or is it something totally different that I don't quite understand? I would really appreciate the clarity on that. Sincerely,
Marcy
