Hi, As a psychologist who uses EMDR with many (but certainly not all) of my patients, I try to find the best type of bilateral stimulation to use for each patient. The judge of what works best is, of course, the patient. I use a light bar (easier on my arm) or a audio headphone set up or a set of tactile probes that the patient holds in their hands. In probably 80% of the cases, I use some combination of these three. In my orientation process the patient and I discuss the various options and how they are used (to include speed and volumn)to find what is most comfortable for my patients. In my experience, no one channel is "best" but there are often strong preferences by the patient. If the processing gets stuck, we may switch channels and that usually helps signficantly. The bottom line is that the patient is the one to decide what channel(s) work best for them.
