You may wish to read Francine Shapiro and Margot Silk Forrest's book, written for the public, on EMDR: The Breakthrough Therapy...It will give much information. The website www.emdr.org has a reasonably current summary of research to date, and www.emdria.org has a way to search for EMDR therapists in your area if one needs a referral. A very expert EMDR therapist can take steps to ensure the process is safe, and as comfortable and contained as possible. The more complicated the trauma history, the more experience ones therapist should be with some of EMDR's fancy footwork. And as you surmised, I really can't make case specific recommendations beyond the general comments offered here. I do find, though, as an EMDR therapist, that most people have every reason to be hopeful that they can make considerable progress in their healing path. Good luck to you. Sandra Paulsen Inobe, PhD
