judging by the number of EDMR therapists i've seen listed treating DD and the fact that none are associated or familar with ISSD, i'd say most therapist's do view EDMR training as inclusive treatment and not an adjunctive 'tool' to use with additional training. it seems EDMR for DD has outpaced ISSD's availabilty. the demand for it is there. i'm concerned about any DD training not enforcing standardization - through prerequesists or making sure more information is available and where. i know too many gifted therapists no longer treating DD's due to liabilty issues, along with poor insurance coverage. most clients aren't in a position of educating themselves or doing multiple interviews, esp. when the therapist is advertising (through the list) DD specialization that sounds 'offical'. i'd hate to loose EDMR, before i had the chance to use it. a proffessor here, that i've heard of, teaches the typical, "i believe it exists, BUT ..." and discloses conjured perimeters so narrow, DID couldn't exist. i read it, again, on the cognitive therapy forum here. the replies asked to save it as 'a voice of reason'. there's PHD's that aren't aware that MMPI's don't test for dissociation, nor what does. why wouldn't a self-styled therapist, who feels they've got the 'jist' of it figured out with a single training, attempt to treat DID? i've faced your example of DID is a defense, "as soon as i face whatever's in the past, i won't need to dissociate, i'll be fixed". 'who' will i be fixed to? 'who' is not dissociating? the result is my body turning into the battleground for an inside war, which i'm responsible for and then i hear - i did it for attention. all the media-hype beliefs and reasons insurance won't cover DID become true. that's deja'vu. i put my life in the hands of the therapist i'm working with. i can see EDMR the same mistakes if DD training in it's use is not comprehensive or requires a prerequesist, so there is some way of standardizing it's application and results are representative of what the best EDMR has to offer. without that, not much has changed from the previous examples. i'm tired of arguing DID's existance. EDMR is the first solution focused therapy i've seen for a long time. it seems a diagnosis becomes 'acceptable' AFTER the treatment gains acceptance. that proves the former, but i'm concerned with how it's being applied
