I have another question. I quit therapy a few weeks ago, after doing (supposedly) emdr prep work for a year. My (ex) therapist practices a certain kind of emdr that focuses on needs. I had a lot of difficulty doing it, for the reasons stated in the other thread. I just had an intake with a different therapist, and he does trauma centered emdr, but he introduces hypnotic and exposure elements to the process and does not necessarily use bls/das. I am really confused. Both these therapists are EMDR certified. Both (they say) are experienced in dissociation. Both do NOT use the standard protocol and think "their" way is more effective. Both these therapists are considered very good. As a dissociative client, I, of course, want to do emdr the safest and most effective way. However, all the therapists I speak to seem to deviate from the standard protocol. I don't know whether the nonstandard protocol contributed to my lack of success. I've had success with play/psychodynamic therapists, and am currently seeing a play therapist, who I will continue seeing whether or not I do the emdr. I'd be doing the emdr on a consultation basis. But I don't want to again attempt a nonstandard emdr and "fail". I am tired of failing. I'd appreciate your input on this. Thanks.
