Your post speaks for itself, so I won't comment on its entirety, only to agree with your initial point. An assumption of EMDR is that healing can occur,that SUDS can go down to zero (unless, for example, the stalker is still out there, or the perp is still living in the house, etc, in which case the SUDS needs to be there). Even god-awful histories can become detoxified. One will never be glad it happened, but it can be accepted as part of the tapestry of ones life. The meaning can shift completely. Even the unspeakable tragedies, such as the molestation of an infant, or the death of a child, can become transformed completely. Some people may decide they WISH to keep a level of disturbance. That is understandable, but they wouldn't have to if they didn't want to. The best example there is when people want to be sure they don't forget (like honoring the dead for example). I like to create a memorial garden in the mind's eye for remembering that which needs to be remembered. Serenity can come with that, if one chooses.
