Its as if when the brain's attention is regulated by eye movements, the brain cannot also distract itself with defenses and dissociation. Can't taking up a hobby accomplish the same thing? Or playing music? Or doing art? I'm quite skeptical, because you are saying that when the eyes are moving, that the brain can not walk and chew gum at the same time. What I'm also skeptcal about, is that you are saying that the brain is regulated by eye movements. Excuse me? I thought the brain regulated the eyes and not vice versa. I think the neuroscientists might have some pretty good evidence that the brain and the occipital lobe regulate eyes and eye movement, and not the other way around. If what you say is true, that if the eyes are moving (which is 99.9999999 percent of the time even while sleeping - REM), that the brain can not be distracted by trauma, and therefore by doing eye exercises during therapy, trauma will be reduced, then we could also not read while moving our eyes, because the brain can not be distracted because it is being regulated by the eyes and therefore can not process the reading material. Last time I tried it, when I read a newspaper and my eyes moved across the page, my brain (albiet feeble) was able to process the reading material just fine. That being said, what proof do you have that EMDR actually does reduce trauma, other than case histories and anecetdotal testimonies? Also has the FDA ever looked at your research data? Have you ever invited them to study EMDR?
