    I'll make a general comment here - may not apply to you.

    Some people have a part of themselves in charge of being "sunny" and in denial. This is a different state than authentic happiness, which is accepting of reality, more or less.

    If work is excruciating it might mean the method is not the best approach. Some people can't do EMDR or can only do it with subtle bilateral stimulation, not eye movemenets, without getting too raw. Some people have to pace their work. Some people need ego strengthening procedures. Some people need alot of stabilization and containment before ever working on other parts work - like introject work.

    Trauma work is, however, generally no fun.
