Based on clinical case experience, some cases of pseudo-seizures are dissociative phenomena, and so are some cases of mutism. In my experience, both are associated with very early trauma, so that when the infantile ego states get triggered, there is an absence of all kinds of things - like cognitive strengths, ego strength, even muscle tone, certainly speech. The apparent seizures are actually the dyscontrol of an infant, in one specific case I'm thinking of right now. Fractionation is tricky, because you can't very well plan and negotiate a piece of work with a non-verbal infantile part of self. Planning can take place iwth other, stronger, older parts of self, and blending can sometimes bring strength to the infantile state, which prevents some of the problems. Containment and stabilization, trust and rapport, are key here.
