Although I can't comment on your specific situation, I'll make some general comments about clients with "one foot on the brake". In 11 years of doing EMDR, I have found Ego State Therapy to be absolutely vital to its successful completion for some people. This is because the approach gives a voice to parts of the self that may have legitimate concerns, alternative points of view, that the "front" part of the self hasn't considered fully. When all relevant parts of the self have gathered in a conference room in the minds eye, under the direction of a therapist trained in EMDR and Ego State Therapy, everything that needs to be addressed can be addressed. The pressure on the brake can ease up. One always needs a brake, just not constantly pushed to the floor. The brake is there for a good reason, always. Sometimes the reason just needs to be revised with current information. Fair Oaks, California
