Dr. Inobe, thank you for that reassurance. You say there is more and to make sure my t knows how to do the work. How am I supposed to assertain whether or not the t has this knowledge? Are there a set of specific questions I should ask him/her to find out if he/she is qualified, and if so, what are they? Being general hasn't helped in the past. My last t assured me she had 20 years experience in working with childhood trauma victims, and had high level EMDR training. We were specific in asking about this, and were forthcoming about having suffered traumatic abuse in childhood. We let her know we were concerned that this might trigger those forward who might not know where they were. How do we prevent this from happening in the future?
But she did none of the things you suggested, and we accessed information none of us was ready to handle. She just assured us it would continue to process between our sessions and not to be too worried about the content or what was happening. We were left feeling out of control with too much threatening, and with the feeling that this t was out of her depths.
