    Re: use of light bar

I use a light bar routinely. I made the switch after about two or three years of EMDR work. At that point I was in the middle of my work with a variety of clients. We spent time looking at the light bar, how it worked, etc together. Then we did a session with the light bar. At the end we discussed how the light bar felt and worked when compared with the finger/hand option. None of the patients stated a preference for the hand/finger approach over the light bar. A number of people reported that they were equivalent and a smaller number indicated a clear preference for the light bar. I routinely use both the light and the audio stimulation. I always ask the patient about their preferences and in the preperation stage we try both. Approximately 20% prefer the light only (that is no audio) and the remaining 80% have a preference for using both at the same time (audio and light) so that is my most common format at this point.
