As an EMDR clinician since 1991, I started with finger movements, then when I got a repetitive motion injury (really!) from all the EMDR I was doing, I switched to light bar, and found no difference in outcome (I'll be interested to hear the patient report). After a few years of doing corporate consulting (and less EMDR work), I have returned to more frequent EMDR work now, with joy (much more rewarding than corporate work), and since my light bar is broken, I've been using finger (extendible pointer actually) without difficulty -- arm has apparently healed. Recently, I've also added tactile and auditory stimulation and have been interested to find that the effect is different, clinically speaking and from using it myself, the results seem, well, more unconscious, and less cognitive. That's not research based, of course, just a clinical observation. Both a collapsible pointer and the audiotac are more portable than the light bar, which is useful for those who move around from office to office alot.
