There are lots of EMDR-related terms and credentials nowadays. Someone who has had Level 2 Training from the EMDR Institute has completed what is currently considered the standard training, as pioneered by Shapiro and the Institute, and as accredited by the EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). Note that there are other accredited training programs that may use different terms than "Level 2" to signify completion of training. A facilitator is someone who has undergone additional training within the EMDR Institute and thereby become qualified to assist the Institute's trainers in providing training, particularly in providing supervision for the practicums (someone please correct me if I'm getting this wrong). There are now also EMDRIA Certified EMDR therapists, which means that they have completed the standard training (such as Level 2) as well as a set number of additional hours of practical experience in providing EMDR, consultation regarding this experience, and continuing education. And there are Consultants (also credentialed by EMDRIA) who have completed a set number of additional hours of experience, as well as a set number of hours of providing EMDR consultation while receiving consultation on that activity. Many Institute facilitators have qualified with EMDRIA as Consultants. However, it should be understood that terms like "Level 2" and "Facilitator" are in-house terms used by the EMDR Institute, whereas the terms "Certified" and "Consultant" may apply to anyone who meets the EMDRIA criteria, regardless of their affiliation.
