Everyone responds differently to EMDR. Some have memories return, or at least images, although it can't be known without corroboration if they are true. Others have no new memories emerge. It is possible that early events are not always permanently stored because of intense emotional arousal. It is also possible that the events weren't important enough at the time. It would be best if you concentrated on improving your present life. The past is only as important as you make it. Work with your therapist towards allowing the treatment to give you a happy present and future rather than worrying about what might have happened. As you say, there is no one around to ask--and therefore no one around to account to. So make yourself, your present and your future the priority. If images arise, let them. But don't try to force it--and don't worry if they don't.
