I would agree. My standard discussion of what therapy is about and what the patient can expect from me and what the patient needs to do to make therapy most helpful to them includes a variety of things. One of those is that therapy will work much better if the patient can be as open and honest as they can be. I also indicate that therapy can get into rather difficult and sensitive areas and that it is always ok for a patient to say that a particular question or area is to sensitive or embarassing and that they would like to delay discussion of it to a later date. Note sure it always works, but this kind of interaction seems to help. I did the pre EMDR and continue now that I use EMDR.
