    CBT for OCD
    Elnour Dafeeah · 06/09/03 at 12:34 ET

I am dealing will a client who is suffering from OCD for over 15 yrs. He is 41 yrs old, unmarried, have a family psychiatric disorders. I have only saw him for about 4 sessions (2hrs each). His big problem is checking and repeating. He obsessed with numbers and has a superstition that if the numbers do not fall wright something bad will happen to him or his family. He is having problems with negative people and negative thoughts. These occasions make him very worried and anxious.

I have used the technique Exposure and Response Prevesion (E/RP) very successfully and his is responding well to the treatment.

My main inquiry is how to deal with compulsive urges to repeat particular behaviors or occaiosns that can not be repeated. We can not used exposure in these events. How to treat this compulsive urge to do something that can not be done or repeated?
