First an apology to Monica. I posted under her name thinking I needed to indicate which article and writer I was referring to. Now onward to her perspective of cyber behavior. Of course, there is the naive, both adult and child who accept without question anything presented to them. But on the whole, the internet addiction is filling a need. In the real world, addictions follow the same patterns and the same urge for fulfillment. The difference being within the cyber world there is anonymity and the ability to disinhibit. You would have to question why the individual prefers an online relationship. It would always go back to whats lacking or controlling them. I would have to say again, there are those who use the web prudently. Its a source of entertainment and contact for those who are not physically able to journey beyond their confines. i.e. residents of nursing homes etc. As for the "shy folks", there again, depends on the why of their individual make up and their ability to cope in the real world. There are many constructive forums of communication on line. Political, religious, arts etc. Mostly though, you will find those who are addicted in chat rooms, game sites, sex sites etc. These are cyber dwellers who abandon their families at every opportunity and take advantage of their employers to be on line. desiree b
