studying the facinating world of the net, i had found that alot of reasons are due to be addressed concerning what the facination is about chatting, online dating, sexual sites, etc. i feel alot of this phenom is the identity issue. being able to explore being someone you really are not, catching that little bit of mystery and manipulating it to your advantage, and building a world (although mostly fantasy) around oneself that one would not be able to live as in the "real" world. heavy women become 5'4 102 pounds, men grow penis's up to 10 inches, poor become rich, married become single, children become the adults they so want to be. the "old" married housewife can become an exciting attorney, a model, and not be stuck in her lonely home for the 5 hours shes online, her 20 felines disapear and a maid is in their place. one can conjure up an identity, one that brings confidence, acceptance, passion, and the excitement that is not found in their dull sometimes abused lives. to hell with the 60's as the sexual revolution. it has nothing on what the online dating services have now. it is not uncommon for a married man to hop a plane and fly to vegas to meet his "new online love" while wifey is home with no clue. did you ever just study a personal ads site on the net? "looking for love, swm honest, loyal, looking for my soulmate....must be discreet" its like a sexual shopping extravaganza. no longer does the unhappy hubby have to stick out the dulldroms in his household, but he is able to hop online and become mel gibsons lookalike and excitement is flipped back into his life. housewives become rachel welsh wanna be's and whalla, a new identity is born. its very logical why the internet is so popular. it gives us the identity that we crave as humans. wouldnt maslow about drop his socks if he was alive?
