I am a undergrad. psychology student and I have been recently introduced to the field of art therapy. I am very interested in this area, so if anyone could answer some of my questions, I would greatly appreciate it. I was just wondering about specific techniques that art therapists use with thier clients. How do you present these techniques to a client? Do you simply ask them to create something that reflects their emotions that session or do you tell them what materials to use and how to use them? I suppose it all depends on your orientation. Have you seen patterns in the outcomes with certain client populations and techniques (which ones work best)?
I would also like to know about the environments that you work in and which ones seem to facilitate positive sessions with your clients.
If you have any extraordinary stories you would like to share to newly introduced student, I would love to hear them! Thank you for your time!
