This day marks the end of the second full year for the Shame and Affect Theory Forum on Behavior OnLine. No one could have anticipated so high a quality of questions and answers provided by so many deeply concerned colleagues. Many of those who learned about affect/script theory through this medium have joined the Silvan S. Tomkins Institute, begun to work in study groups, and augmented their clinical skills by working in this new system and language.
This rich opportunity was made possible by the vision and wisdom of one scholar/educator---Professor Gil Levin of the Albert Einstein Medical College and Director of the Cape Cod Institute. Looking always for new ways to help clinicians grow in their own realms of interest, and never satisfied with the results of his immensely successful teaching ventures, Gil developed Behavior OnLine as a novel method for outreach and brought it to this current level of sophistication and success.
As a writer and theorist, I have been challenged over and over to answer searching questions thrust on me by those who frequent this forum. All of you have made me work hard, and I am grateful for that. I hope that the new year brings with it an increased number of questions and statements about clinical matters as we work together to develop new methods of treatment based on the material we have been discussing.I look forward to meeting many of you in person during my week-long visit to the Cape Cod Institute in August, and at the annual Colloquium of the Tomkins Institute in Philadelphia this October.
