Dr. Nathanson,

As a person with Bipolar Disorder, I find your explanation of the Affect-Pattern Chart and mania absolutely fascinating, and right on target.

I am very pleased that you have included discussion of this disorder on this forum and in your book, Shame and Pride.

I would like to add that my mania/hypomania has been under very good control with the anti-seizure drug Neurontin. Unfortunately, I am not a good candidate for antidepressants . I believe I am getting a better handle on the "depression" end of the spectrum with a understanding of the shame-affect theory.

Thank you for your work and research in this area.
