    Positive reinforcement versus ticket sales

Your points are well taken. We are moving steadily toward an attack other society, one that celebrates skill at humiliating others instead of elevating all to peaceful communion. There are a lot of factors to blame for the way any city humiliates its sports franchises. Among them are the nature of that city's identity, and whether it is on an upward or a downward spiral.

If we make you Czar for a month or so, where would you start to work on the problem that a city (any city, really) tends to use its professional sports franchises as easy targets for shaming assault when they lose, and sources of what I have called "borrowed pride" when they win? Would you start by telephoning the ubiquitous radio talk shows where the average Joe calls to complain vociferously about the behavior of his/her team? Would you plant articles in the newspaper about the importance of grace? How might you approach the problem that the population at large tends to seek ways of reducing the self esteem of others instead of looking inward to study and improve the self?
