I visited Joan and her husband, Louis H. Stewart, in California when I was working on Knowing Feeling, to which he contributed a chapter. Joan has a huge collection of dolls, toys, and artifacts used in therapy to represent what Tomkins would call an Image. I learned a great deal from her and from her book. Thanks for reminding me about it and her.
