Re: Major nerves and anxiety/ Amen!

    Don,
I want to wholeheartedly apologize for my own underlying feeling tone in response to your participation on this forum. At four am (after some REM processing, no doubt) I woke up realizing that my zeal in defending emdr was no different than your zeal in challenging it or in espousing cbt. Emdr has made a difference in my life and I experienced your strident and sometimes personal attacks on Dr. Shapiro and others who have reported benefits from emdr as invalidating, dismissive and disrespectful. I regret the inappropriateness of my defensiveness. I think you play an important role on this forum - to remind us that reported effectiveness for psychological treatments need to be scientifically researched. I am confident that the research, if designed and implimented by those without an axe to grind, will bear out emdr's effectiveness. Time will tell.
So now that I've "owned my stuff" Don, I challenge you to do the same and to engage in some honest self reflection(though I'm not sure you would be required to do so with cbt)of your underlying motives for participating here. If, in your eyes, proven, researched scientific data is the ONLY valid information that should be accepted on this forum, please cite the research studies that support your insinuations that greed and snake oil salesmanship are the foundation of emdr. There's no data there -- just personal, transferential "stuff". In my opinion, you can't experience scientific neutrality until you take responsibility for your bias and own your own stuff.Nevertheless, I welcome your call for more data. Don, from one fallible human being to another, thanks for your interest, energy and participation. It will go a long way in helping to pressure emdr therapists to examine, refine, validate the benefits of emdr

    Jerry
