    If you mean thinking that reflects a compliance with others expectations, Adler did not consider this as valuable as independent, assertive, creative thinking, feeling, and action that actually contributes to mutual benefit. Self-sacrifice in the service of social improvement is very different, and more valuable, than socially useless, neurotic self-sacrifice that simply intoxicates an individual with a hollow illusion of superiority. The best way to evaluate motives is to honestly consider who is the real beneficiary. Self-sacrificing behavior that leaves others feeling obligated or guilty, is not very helpful.
