I think your concern is legitimate. Kundalini, while "traditionally" deliberately awakened, can also occur spontaneously. If one does not already have grounding in terms of diet, sleep, emotional stability, and supportive relationships (including meditation/yoga teachers), then it might become just one more difficult process. On the other hand, it probably isn't going to happen spontaneously... it just "might". If your relaxation techniques help you I wouldn't quit entirely... you might ration out what you do as regards certain chakras, etc. Focus on grounding and calm and note that your nervousness around the issue is probably "typical" for you, but that the "threat" is low and does not necessarily necessitate you giving up your usual routine of tapes, etc.
