So I consulted my good friend Google only to find that there are many sites discussing this issue. The research seems to apply mostly to the TM method. That balance of natural 'drugs' in body is enhanced or decreased by particular practises in nothing new. One of my Taiji/Qigong students, a reforming addict found over the years that some stationary meditations, particularly closed eyes seated ones have caused her distress. When she was admitted to hospital last year after an 'episode' a staff member rang asking my opinion. With only a little knowledge of what her medical status & not being a 'doctor' anyhow I was reluctant to say anything. When pushed for a comment I said that I thought she was having a 'spiritual emergency.' She has since recovered very well. I mentioned the phone call later she admitted mentioning my name to staff & giving her permission for them to call me. She said that she has refused to take any prescribed medication. One of our Taiji group, a doctor said that smoking pot & previous drug taking probably brought on the problem. I wonder too if diet has any bearing as 'the subject' is a strict vegetarian.
