I have had schizo affective disorder (episodal) for the last ten years and have been meditating for the last seven years. My psychosis is not as bad as some but worse than others. Meditation and Buddhist beliefs have saved my life although not without some risks along the way.
Having qualified teachers to ground me and in whom I have faith has been indespensible, as has some pretty scanty level of insight to begin with. It seems to me that meditation combined with a sensible lifestyle offers hope with an illness that is often considered to be incurable.
I dont beleive that meditation is helpful for all cases of schizophrenia (for many and done incorrectely it is positively detrimental)but for those who can handle it, with proper guidance it has great therapeutic value.
