Hi! 4th year graduate here from Perth West Australia. late reply to this but letting you know that some 11 months later this page has been read..and appreciated. I am not in a psycotherapy practice..hence research on the application of gestalt therapy to something that I can relate too was difficult... until stimulated by the discussion/ forum on buddhism..thats why I came to gestalt in the first place..because of my ideas that it would be similar to vipassana. Vipassana has been used with a great deal of success worldwide as a "treatment/therapy" for substance abuse and I intend to produce my essay on a comparison of the application of gestalt therapy and Vipassana meditation to substance abuse. The title of this paper leapt at me as being the common principle. Thanks for the inspiration.
Ps - I also would like to make a comment, based on my own experience, on previous comparisons of Gestalt Therapy and Buddhism - both operate at the experiential/phenomenological level hence the truist comparison should be between the experience of vipassana and the experience of contact boundary or "I-Thou" "work" rather than the intellectual theories between them.
Cheers Bev Walker
