Brian, HiHo, How ya been? Soren Kierkegaard proposed that man/woman existed on one of three levels or plains of existence: religious, aesthetic, physical. Our existential choice was to elect to persue a "higher" level than that on which we already lived. I've never seen these levels as our friend Soren did but rather looked at them as more fluid, if you will. I think the role and responsibility of the therapist resides on a nitch above the aethetic and below the religious. Since we reach out to others in pain we are pulling away from that which is of this earth (the aesthetic) toward that which is of the spirit (or the soul if you will). I like residing as a "tweener" of sorts, not telling other how they should live but rather assisting them in a better understanding of how THEY feel they should live. Whatdaya think?........Ed
