My 38 year old son suffers from Bi-Polar Disorder. It first manifested itself after a serious accident his wife was involved in about 10 years ago. He has been hospitalized, briefly each time, 5 times since then. He has a lot of "excess baggage" in addition to the BPD. I suggested EMDR therapy to his intake therapist and he is unfamiliar with it but open to information about it and experienced EMDR therapists in the area. It is not my thought that EMDR could treat the BPD but that if my son can unload some or all of the "excess baggage" he has to deal with he can better concentrate on and manage the BPD. He is currently on Seroquel, Klonopin and Tegretol. Would the BPD or these meds be expected to interfere w/successful EMDR therapy or would EMDR therapy be contraindicated in a situation such as this?
