From my experience phenomenology is best explained when juxtaposed with existentialism, Maybe you could try Sartre vs. Husserrel(ref. Phenomenology and the Crises of Modern Philosophy). The recognition of the in itself could be your focus. On the one hand the use of phenomenological concepts of reduction/ideation/mediation/fusion(fusion is my addition) in mans attempt to understand reality. On the other hand the existential concept of transdendence (ref. Sartre:Transcendence of the Ego) as mans absurd attempt to bring meaning to his world. You might want to throw in some logical positivism (Ayer/Whitehead/Russell) but I have always felt that positivism is merely a gutterel form of phenomenology. Good Luck! Ed Riemann
