I don't know if "lurking" is contagious. However, I think that many people in the cyber community are finding bulletin boards less satisfying. We are fast becoming a society dedicated to instant gratification. You know, the "gotta get through the drive through window in less than three minutes, fax it don't mail it, pagers, cell phones, etc." I think that posting a message and then waiting for someone to come along and respond (which could take days or weeks) just doesn't satisfy our need for immediacy. There is a lack of "interaction". If one goes into a chat room, there is usually instant interaction of one sort or another. I think the people who might be drawn to a topic like the psychology of cyberspace are people who may be familiar and acustomed to the faster pace of online life.
