Connectedness

I can definitely understand the idea of the need for connectedness being satisfied in some way by CMC. I have been surprised at how quickly I begin to feel that I am part of some "online community" when corresponding with a group of people. I'm not surprised that this happens without meeting them FTF because I think words are a powerful tool. However, I tend to feel this connection even while realizing that the other group members may not feel connected to me or even each other. In other words, I find I "create" communities much more easily online than I do in person. Perhaps this has more to do with me than the process of CMC?!
