Robert,
You might read Erickson's Collected Papers edited by Ernest Rossi to see how Erickson worked with organic injuries. Basically, he built "response potential, " sometimes frustrating patients into a response.
For example, with an aphasic patient who hated fish, he had her and her husband sit in front of a fish tank every day. After hours of that curious assignment, she really wanted to speak.
Remember, every patient has unrecognized potentials for change that can be utilized...
Also, you might want to join the new Erickson Listserv to see what other experts have to say
Good luck.
